TUTU LAMENTS AFRIKANER "EXCLUSION" IN MADIBA EVENTS

December 17, 2013 | UhuruSpirit

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu

CAPE TOWN - Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu said Nelson Mandela would have been appalled at the exclusion of Afrikaners in public events during the ten days of mourning.

In a statement, Tutu said this was contrary to the Madiba’s motto of being inclusive.

Tutu apologised to the community, saying Mandela went out of his way to ensure Afrikaners felt part of the new nation.

The outspoken archbishop said leaders from the Dutch Reformed Church should have been part of the interfaith proceedings at the memorial and funeral services.

He said the programme directors at the funeral should not have been limited to the ANC.

Tutu, however, also heaped praise on those who organised all the events during the national mourning period, saying Madiba was given a fitting send off. -eNCA
