SWAZI POLICE BREAKS UP PEACEFUL NELSON MANDELA MEMORIAL IN SWAZILAND

King Mswati III of Swaziland

A memorial organised by the Swaziland United Democratic Front (SUDF) to mourn the death of Nelson Mandela at the Lutheran Church in Manzini has been broken up by police.

In a report by COSATU Press, which was relayed by the Swaziland Solidarity Network (SSN), the People's United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) was quoted as saying, "As PUDEMO we are alarmed at this wanton disregard for human rights and failure to honour the memory of Nelson Mandela. We condemn this in the most strongest of terms. It is an insult to what Nelson Mandela stood for and clearly shows that the Swazi regime cannot hate its disgust for anything resembling democracy."

It should be noted that King Mswati III of Swaziland was conspicuously absent during the Special Memorial Service for the departed revolutionary icon Nelson Mandela on 10 December 2013. Swaziland was represented at the event attended by most world leaders by the hand-picked Prime Minister Dr Sibusiso Dlamini.
