U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday had the privilege of meeting with his President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya during the Special Memorial Service for the departed anti-apartheid hero, Dr Nelson Mandela.

Obama and Kenyatta share a lot in common because they are both sons of Kenya's independence heroes. President Obama's Kenyan father, Hussein Barack Obama Sr., worked with Uhuru's father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in the 1960s and 1970s when the latter was the Kenyan President.

During the Mandela Memorial in South Africa, the two met briefly, shook hands and exchanged pleasantries. They were later seen chatting as if they had long been friends.

Since his election, President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is on trial at the ICC along with Kenyan Deputy William Ruto over post-election violence in 2008, is emerging as one of the few African leaders who are standing up against some Western countries that continue to treat sovereign African countries as if they were still colonies.

President Barack Obama is yet to visit Kenya since his historic election in 2008 as the first black President of the United States of America.
